Chelsea’s move for Leeds United star Raphinha may have reached a dead end.
Chelsea have agreed a deal with Leeds United, but the Brazilian is keen on a move to Barcelona.
Reports now claim that Chelsea are pursuing alternative targets.
According to Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have lined up former Arsenal star Serge Gnabry as an alternative to Raphina.
Serge Gnabry had spent three years with the Gunners before leaving for the Bundesliga in 2016, where he had starred for Bayern Munich.
However, reports from Sky Germany claims joining Chelsea is out of the question for Gnabry because of his affiliation with our London rivals Arsenal.
Bayern are keen to extend Gnabry’s contract beyond 2023, but Gnabry is exploring other options as the parties have been unable to reach an agreement so far.
Gnabry has seen his game develop in Germany, and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand had even referred to the German as world-class.
“If you can get around 20 goals and 10 plus assists, you are sitting at the top level, a world-class wide man,” Ferdinand said.
“He looks a well-educated player, does all the right things with and without the ball.
“He’s got to be one of the most improved players in football at the moment. In terms of his trajectory, From where he was being discarded by Arsenal and West Brom to where he is now, wow.”
Gnabry is expected to make a decision on his future soon.
