BBC pundit, Glenn Murray has revealed he was shocked to see Chelsea celebrate the way they did after Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup win against Newcastle United.

Mykhailo Mudryk came off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser for Chelsea, who had trailed the Magpies by 1-0 since the first half.

With the game entering a shootout, Chelsea also scored all four of their penalties, while Newcastle missed two of their own.

The whole of Stamford Bridge were left jubilant after the win, with Chelsea players and the coaching staff also running to celebrate with the fans. And while Murray admits that he can understand why that was, the pundit also says he thought it was a little too much.

Murray told BBC Radio 5 Live: “We’ve actually just watched Chelsea do a lap of honour for winning in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. The jubilation, honestly, I’m a little bit surprised. The fans clearly need something to get behind and something to cheer. I think it’s mixed with a tinge of relief as well that they’ve managed to get there.”

Chelsea have been drawn up against Middlesbrough in the semi-finals of the tournament, with the first leg coming up in the week commencing January 8.
