Chelsea are reportedly setting its sights on KAA Gent’s versatile defender, Archie Brown, planning a potential move for the young English talent during the summer transfer window.

HITC suggests that Chelsea have already dispatched scouts to monitor the 21-year-old’s performances, highlighting their interest in strengthening their defensive options.

Brown, who initially emerged from Derby County’s youth system, has caught the eye at KAA Gent, showcasing his adaptability across various defensive and midfield roles.

Initially starting his career on the wing, Brown has adeptly transitioned into a more defensive role, primarily favoring the left-back position. However, his ability to perform as a wide midfielder or even centrally in defense underlines his valuable versatility.

Chelsea’s interest in Brown comes amid competition from several other English clubs, including West Ham, Leeds United, and Fulham. Chelsea, in particular, are keen to stay ahead in the race for his signature, having observed him in action during KAA Gent’s recent clash with Standard Liege, where Brown featured in a left midfield role.

With potential departures on the horizon, Chelsea might view Brown as an ideal candidate to bolster their left-sided options, potentially serving as a backup or even a successor to Ben Chilwell.

Brown’s skill set and playing style have drawn comparisons to Chelsea’s own Ian Maatsen, who may be on his way out as the club considers selling some of its homegrown talents.

Moreover, Brown could emerge as a replacement for Marc Cucurella, whose performance since his high-profile move to Chelsea in 2022 has been under scrutiny. With rumors of Chelsea’s willingness to sell Cucurella, possibly to Barcelona, Brown’s arrival could provide the fresh impetus needed on the left flank.
