Cole Palmer told he has not been as good as this 22-year-old Arsenal star this season

Darren Bent has argued that Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka deserves to start ahead of Cole Palmer at the 2024 European Championship.

Palmer, who signed for Chelsea from Manchester City on transfer deadline day, has been nothing short of phenomenal since he made the switch.

In 17 Premier League games, the 21-year-old has picked up 13 goal contributions, while scoring a total of 11 goals across all competitions. Two of those goals came in Chelsea’s 6-1 thrashing of Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday, where he was sensational as usual.

However, for all his brilliance, football pundit, Bent doesn’t think that Palmer is good enough to start ahead of Gunners’ forward, Saka, who he has now claimed is having a better season.

“Saka’s been doing well. Arsenal are up there; they’re fighting at the top of the table, so he’s been very good. I’m going to stick with Saka,” Bent said when asked which of the two players has had the better season.

“I think he [Palmer] should go [to the Euros], but he’s never going to start ahead of Saka.”

Palmer was handed his senior England debut in late 2023, so it remains to be seen whether the 21-year-old can convince Gareth Southgate to make his squad for the Euros.

However, there are many who believe that the Chelsea star has certainly done well enough to earn a spot in the Three Lions’ squad for the tournament, and if he continues to perform like he has this season, there will be nothing stopping him from getting on the plane to Germany come June this year.
