Jamie Carragher has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino is the best thing about Chelsea at the moment, and everything around the Argentine must improve after watching the Blues fight back to a 4-4 draw against Manchester City on Sunday.

Pochettino took over the reigns at Chelsea over the summer, following the sacking of Graham Potter towards the end of last season.

The Blues began life under their new manager with a few shaky results, which saw Chelsea spend a number of weeks inside the bottom-half of the Premier League table, however, things appear to be taking shape gradually, with the draw against Man City moving Chelsea into 10th place on the log.

Speaking after the entertaining draw with Pep Guardiola’s men on Sunday, Carragher spoke glowing about Pochettino, and claimed that Chelsea couldn’t have gotten a better manager than the 51-year-old at this time.

“The best thing about Chelsea right now is Pochettino, not the players or the owners – the manager,” the ex-defender said, live on Sky Sports.

“That’s the most important man, when you talk about Chelsea getting back to winning trophies, I’m not sure they could have got a better manager that was available. Everything around him has to improve.

“The players, they’ll now have the confidence that they can go up against the best team in the world – confidence in the manager as well, that he can set them up in a certain way, every big game he’s given the opposition problems.

“They were the better team against Liverpool, the better team against Arsenal and I think they were the better team today in terms of causing the opposition problems.

“So there’s a lot to feel good about at Chelsea – we can go back to the ownership and how much they’ve spent.

“But in terms of Pochettino and the young players, there’s a lot of optimism going forward that they can compete with the best teams and a manager who can compete with the best managers.”
