Spanish side Barcelona will make a move for Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta in the summer, according to Spanish media outlet Sport.

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez is keen on strengthening his right-back options ahead of next season and wants an experienced player whose cost is not too high due to salary cap problems.

Barcelona are confident Azpilicueta will be allowed to leave Chelsea this summer with the Blues keen on a signing a right-back this January.

Chelsea have had a bid rejected for Lyon right-back Malo Gusto and are also interested in signing Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries.

Barcelona believe Chelsea will have surplus of right-backs in the summer and believe the Blues will allow Azpilicueta leave.

Despite interest in signing Azpilicueta in the summer, Barcelona are reportedly only willing to sign the Chelsea captain as a free agent. The Spanish side are hoping Chelsea will allow Azpilicueta join Barcelona as a free agent.
