It could be said that the Premier League game between Chelsea and Brighton was won and lost on the bench.
Seagulls boss Roberto de Zerbi got his tactics spot on, while Potter got it wrong in the first-half.
Potter started with a back three of Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva and Marc Cucurella, with Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling playing as wing-backs.
Pulisic and Sterling who are traditional forward players, struggled so badly in the role and it left gaps down both flanks.
As a result, Chelsea conceded a 5th minute goal and two own goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah.
Speaking after the game, De Zerbi who only got his first win as Brighton manager, revealed that he targeted Chelsea’s outside centre-backs Trevoh Chalobah and Marc Cucurella.
Asked if he had specifically targeted Chelsea’s outside centre-backs, De Zerbi told Brighton’s website: “We prepared the game one-to-one with Mitoma with Chalobah and one-to-one Solly March against Cucurella.
“But Trossard was fantastic, Adam Lallana the same. All the players were fantastic.”
