Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has been in fine form this season, and has taken over from first choice goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
However, the Spaniard had to be subbed off at half-time after picking what seemed like a slight injury.
Explaining the change, Potter said about the substitution: “It was the bottom of his foot, I don’t know it’s too early yet.
“He was too bad to carry on. It’s disappointing for him because he’s in a really good moment.”
Kepa conceded three first half goals, and Mendy conceded another in the second-half, as Chelsea lost 4-1.
Speaking after the game, Graham Potter admitted that Brighton deserved their victory.
“They played well, the atmosphere was really intense here,” said Potter.
“We didn’t necessarily match that level of intensity.
“We had some opportunities to test the keeper, but it was too open and Brighton were dangerous.
“We were pushing and pushing and throwing players on, but Brighton deserved it. You have to say congratulations to them.
“Brighton were better at what they did, so we have to take that as a lesson – even though that’s a painful one for us.
“You have to congratulate Brighton. The intensity was there and we suffered a little bit.
“The players are an honest bunch – we win and lose together – so we have to take stock and move forward.”
