Arsenal’s Declan Rice has revealed that he thinks one Chelsea star has been among the England stars playing really well this season.

The midfielder, who has been instrumental to the Gunners’ success this term, was recently asked to name what players he feels have staked a claim to a starting spot with England at the 2024 European Championship, and he mentioned Cole Palmer.

Rice told ESPN: “I feel like it is the conversation every time a tournament comes around. A lot of players are obviously playing really well. So many players in the Premier League: Jarrod Bowen at West Ham, Ross Barkley at Luton, Cole Palmer [Chelsea], Curtis Jones[Liverpool], so many players playing well.”

Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City last summer after the clubs agreed a £40m deal.

At the time, the fee seemed too much for a player with very little first-team experience, but since the transfer, the 21-year-old has come and proven himself to be a class player, making 17 goal contributions in the league alone since then.

Mauricio Pochettino has previously likened Palmer to countryman, Angel Di Maria, who he says the attacker shares a characteristic with.

“Juan Mata? No, he is more Di Maria! You know, the body and the way he moves,” said the Chelsea manager.

Palmer made his debut for England’s senior team last year, and will no doubt be on the plane to the Euros if he continues to perform as well as he has until the end of the ongoing campaign.
