Manchester City move for Chelsea transfer target after dropping out of race for Declan Rice

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have entered the race to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga after ending their pursuit of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

West Ham rejected a £90million offer from Manchester City for Rice on Tuesday and the treble winners have now dropped out of the race for the England international after Arsenal submitted a bid of £105million.

Manchester City have now opted to move for Veiga, who was one of Celta’s stand-out performers despite the club narrowly avoiding relegation last season.

He is also firmly on Chelsea’s radar with Mauricio Pochettino eager to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

Veiga has as a €40million (£35m) release clause.

Romano said: “Manchester City have entered the race for Spanish talent Gabri Veiga after pulling out of Declan Rice deal. He’s one of the options now being considered at the club.

“Liverpool and Chelsea remain interested but City also informed now. Release clause: €40m.”
