Chelsea transfer target warned he could end up playing in the Championship if he doesn’t improve

Former Premier League star Gabriel Agbonlahor has warned Manchester United winger and Chelsea transfer target Jadon Sancho could end up playing in the Championship if he doesn’t improve.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Agbonlahor claimed Sancho must use the World Cup break as a “reality check” as he suggested Sancho’s career could go the same way as former Spurs midfielder Dele Alli.

“He just probably needs a reality check of what’s important to him,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“He’s 22, so it’s ‘Do I want to end up in the Championship at 25 or 26? Or, do I want to be playing in the Premier League and for England when I’m 25 or 26?’

“You look at Dele Alli. He’s not ripping it up in Turkey and his next move could be in the Championship.

“That can happen in football if you’re not bang at it, even at a young age.

“That’s what Jadon Sancho has probably had to say to himself, sometimes nobody else can help you expect from yourself.

“Maybe that’s why he hasn’t gone with them and wanted to stay and do his own thing, I’ve got no problem with that.

“It must be difficult for him to watch England but it’s his own doing. If you don’t perform, you don’t get picked.

“When he had the chance at Man United, he wasn’t taking players on, he was playing in the comfort zone. If you’re in the comfort zone, nowadays with all the cameras, you’re going to get found out.

“That’s why Gareth Southgate had no option but to drop him.”
