Chelsea fans were left wondering why Alejandro Garnacho didn’t get a chance to face his former club in the Blues’ clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Enzo Maresca has now explained the situation.
The Chelsea head coach admitted the Argentine winger was right on the verge of being introduced in the second half before an unexpected twist forced a change of plans.

“Garnacho was ready to go on, but then Wes [Fofana] asked for the change, because he was tired after a long time,” Maresca revealed.

With Fofana signalling that he needed to come off after a long spell without minutes, Maresca was left with little choice but to reshuffle.

“So we changed and we decided to go for Malo Gusto, the idea [had been] to give Garnacho minutes,” the coach added.

It’s a decision that will feel particularly frustrating for Garnacho, who would have relished the chance to line up against Manchester United for the first time since leaving Old Trafford. Instead, he’ll have to wait a little longer for that highly anticipated meeting.

Everything went against Chelsea in that game, following Robert Sanchez’s fourth minute red card.

  1. Can’t you sell this Fofana?

  2. Fofana is becoming more of a liability than an asset!! Get him out before it’s too late..
