Argentina’s 1986 World Cup winner Oscar Ruggeri has sent a blunt reality check to Alejandro Garnacho, warning the young winger to “come back down to earth” after being left out of the national team.

Speaking to TNT Sports Argentina, Ruggeri didn’t hold back as he questioned the attitude of the former Man United star who joined Chelsea last summer: “He’s no better than anyone else, you’re a football player, enjoy it, but you shouldn’t be so full of yourself.”

The veteran went further, suggesting Garnacho’s attitude could be costing him opportunities with the national team.

“It’s pointless because you miss out on so much. Someone has to bring him down to earth. They’re not calling him up to the national team.”

Since his last Argentina call-up in November 2024, Garnacho hasn’t featured again for Lionel Scaloni’s side — a stark contrast to when he was being tipped as the next big thing in the Argentina setup. Ruggeri believes the talent is still there but insists the winger must refocus.

He concluded: “If he comes back down to earth like he was, they’ll call him up again because he’s phenomenal on the pitch.”
