Chelsea fans had their first glimpse of Brazilian wonderkid Estevão Willian in blue – and he didn’t disappoint. Making his debut in a pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen, the 18-year-old marked the occasion with a goal that helped secure a 2-0 victory for Enzo Maresca’s side.
It wasn’t just the supporters who were impressed. Teammate Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who played alongside Estevão for the first time, couldn’t hide his admiration for the young forward’s flair and ability.
“It was amazing. You’ve seen the Joga Bonito he played? He’s a great player with so many skills and attributes. It was really good to watch him play today,” Bynoe-Gittens said after the match.
The phrase “Joga Bonito” – Portuguese for “the beautiful game” – perfectly sums up Estevão’s style. His quick feet, creativity, and confidence on the ball brought flashes of vintage Brazilian artistry to Stamford Bridge, and his sharp finish only added to the excitement surrounding his arrival.
With Chelsea now turning their attention to their next friendly against AC Milan, fans are already counting down the days to see more from their new teenage star. If his debut is anything to go by, Estevão could be set to light up the pitch for the Blues in the seasons ahead.
