Ethan Nwaneri is prepared to walk away from Arsenal if manager Mikel Arteta fails to guarantee him regular first-team football, with Chelsea closely monitoring the situation, according to reports.

The highly-rated 18-year-old forward has yet to agree terms on a new contract at the Emirates and is entering the final year of his current deal. With Chelsea long-time admirers of the teenager, the Blues are ready to pounce should negotiations between Arsenal and Nwaneri break down.

According to talkSPORT (via GOAL), Nwaneri has issued an ultimatum to Arteta, seeking assurances about his development and playing time. The England youth international reportedly believes he has the potential to one day compete for the Ballon d’Or and wants a clear pathway to regular football to continue his rise.

Nwaneri was the youngest player in England’s U-21 squad that won the U-21 Euros this summer and enjoyed a breakout season at Arsenal. He made 37 appearances across all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring nine goals and impressing when called upon, particularly during Bukayo Saka’s injury absence.

Despite his progress, Nwaneri is said to be concerned about his future role in the squad, especially with Arsenal pushing to sign Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. The arrival of another forward could limit his opportunities, and Chelsea are ready to offer the youngster a more prominent role in Enzo Maresca’s youthful project at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal remain hopeful of convincing Nwaneri to stay but face a crucial few weeks ahead, with Chelsea and other clubs keeping a close eye on developments.
