Premier League footballer Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, have tragically died following a car accident in Spain.
According to The Athletic, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 00:30 local time on Thursday morning on the A-52 highway — a major route that stretches from Madrid to the Galician region in northwestern Spain. The crash happened in the province of Zamora, near the Spanish-Portuguese border.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicle, occupied by 28-year-old Jota and 26-year-old Silva, veered off the road and crashed. The impact caused the car to catch fire, and both men died at the scene.
Jota, who was a key player for Liverpool and the Portuguese national team, had recently married his long-time partner, Rute Cardoso, in his hometown of Porto. The couple shared three children.
His brother, André Silva, was also a professional footballer, playing for Liga Portugal 2 side FC Penafiel.
