Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has publicly expressed his support for Mykhailo Mudryk, despite the Ukrainian winger facing serious doping allegations that could lead to a lengthy ban from football.

Mudryk, 24, was provisionally suspended in December after a routine urine test reportedly revealed an “adverse finding.”

He hasn’t featured for the Blues since November 28, and a potential four-year ban looms if he’s found guilty of intentionally taking a banned substance. While the investigation continues, Chelsea have prioritised Mudryk’s mental wellbeing, even though he remains barred from training with the squad.

In his first public comments on the matter, Maresca revealed that he has spoken with Mudryk — affectionately referred to as “Mischa” — just once since the news broke.

“I spoke with Mischa in Poland when we played the Conference League Final. We haven’t spoken since,” Maresca admitted.

Though his contact with Mudryk has been limited, Maresca was clear about one thing: his belief in the player remains intact.

“There is nothing I can add. I don’t have more information. Misha is a Chelsea player and I still trust him, like I trust all the Chelsea players.”

That final statement from the Chelsea boss is telling. Despite the cloud of uncertainty hanging over Mudryk’s future, Maresca is choosing unity and loyalty over judgement — at least publicly. His declaration of trust is not only a sign of leadership but also a message to the dressing room: players are not abandoned in their lowest moments.

As the legal and disciplinary processes play out, Chelsea fans will be watching closely. While Mudryk’s future remains uncertain, one thing is clear — Enzo Maresca is standing by his man.
