Enzo Maresca has heaped praise on Chelsea winger Pedro Neto following his impressive performance in the Club World Cup opener against Los Angeles FC.
Neto, who joined Chelsea last summer, played a key role in the Blues’ 2-0 win, scoring the opening goal and writing his name into the history books as the first Chelsea player to score at the newly formatted Club World Cup tournament.
Speaking after the match, Maresca was full of admiration for the Portuguese international’s work ethic and consistency since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
“Pedro is a very good person, very professional, and works hard every day,” the Chelsea boss said.
“Today he played a very good game and since he arrived with us, he has been very good.”
Neto’s first season at Chelsea saw him register six goals and nine assists across all competitions — solid numbers for a debut campaign in a team undergoing transition.
However, Maresca believes the 24-year-old is just getting started and expects him to reach another level next season.
“Next season, he is probably going to be even better in terms of goals and assists, but overall, we are very happy with Pedro,” Maresca added.
With Chelsea setting their sights on Club World Cup glory, Neto’s form could prove vital as the Blues aim to cap off their resurgence under Maresca with international silverware. If the opening game is anything to go by, Pedro Neto is ready to light up the tournament — and the Premier League — in the months to come.
