Pedro Neto has credited teammate Nicolas Jackson for the assist that led to his stunning goal in Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over LAFC in their opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in Atlanta.

Jackson’s perfectly timed and weighted through ball was met by Neto in full stride. What followed was a moment of brilliance from the Portuguese winger, who raced past defender Ryan Hollingshead before cutting inside sharply onto his left foot and drilling a low shot beyond LAFC goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

The goal not only gave Chelsea the lead but also showcased Neto’s confidence and sharp form in his debut season with the club.

“I feel very good,” Neto told FIFA. “I have had some adaptations in the team. I’ve played in a lot of positions. It’s my first year with the club, so there is a lot of adaptation there as well. I’m really happy with the way I’m performing at the moment. I hope to continue in this way.”

Reflecting on the goal, Neto made sure to acknowledge the role of Jackson: “I have to be thankful to Nico because of the pass. He was joking with me a little bit because I didn’t thank him (during my celebration), so I will say thank you very much now, Nico!”

The win puts Chelsea in a strong position in Group D, with their next Club World Cup clash set to be a highly anticipated encounter against Brazilian giants Flamengo.
