Chelsea’s ambitious bid to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens has ended in disappointment — for now.
The 20-year-old English talent was one of the Blues’ top attacking targets ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, but negotiations have hit a brick wall after Dortmund rejected Chelsea’s third offer of €55 million.
According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, the German giants remain firm on their valuation and are unwilling to part with Gittens for anything less than their asking price. The latest rejection has left the deal in tatters, with sources close to the negotiations revealing that a resolution before the transfer window closes is now “highly unlikely.”
Tensions seem to have boiled over on Gittens’ end. A video widely shared on social media shows the winger leaving Dortmund’s training ground in visible frustration, speeding off in a high-performance car — a move many fans interpreted as a sign of his growing discontent with how the transfer saga has unfolded.
Chelsea were keen to secure Gittens in time for their Club World Cup campaign, with manager Enzo Maresca reportedly identifying the winger as a key addition to his squad.
However, this setback means the Blues will now have to push for an alternative or wait for the next opportunity.
Sky Sports’ chief reporter Kaveh Solhekol has confirmed that Chelsea are not giving up entirely. The club is expected to return with a fresh bid when the transfer window reopens next Monday.
For now, though, Gittens remains a Dortmund player — but for how much longer remains to be seen.
