Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrović has sent a clear warning to Robert Sánchez, who was the club’s first-choice goalkeeper during the just concluded 2024/25 season.
Petrović, who spent the season on loan at Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, delivered a string of solid performances in Ligue 1 and helped the French side qualify for European football. Now, the Serbian shot-stopper has set his sights on taking over as Chelsea’s number one.
Speaking about his ambitions for the upcoming season, Petrović didn’t hold back: “That’s my goal, to become the regular number one at Chelsea.”
Robert Sánchez struggled for consistency throughout the season, with several high-profile mistakes raising doubts over his long-term future as Chelsea’s first-choice keeper. With the Club World Cup and a new Premier League campaign approaching, the battle between Sánchez and Petrović is expected to be one of the key pre-season storylines under Enzo Maresca.
