Chelsea are in negotiations to sign AC Milan’s first-choice goalkeeper Mike Maignan, with the Frenchman potentially on his way to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The 29-year-old, who has one year left on his contract at the San Siro, is yet to agree a new deal — prompting Chelsea to explore a move. There is optimism that the deal could be completed, with Maignan reportedly open to a new challenge in the Premier League.
Should the move materialise, it would mark yet another shake-up in Chelsea’s goalkeeper department. The Blues already have Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Mike Penders, and Kepa Arrizabalaga on their books. However, Maignan’s proven pedigree could see him immediately challenge for the No 1 spot.
Maignan has impressed at both club and international level, helping Lille win Ligue 1 in 2021 before moving to Milan, where he clinched the Serie A title in 2022 and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2024. He has earned 30 caps for France and was recently named in the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament.
Chelsea see Maignan as a potential leader at the back and a crucial piece in their rebuilding project under Enzo Maresca.
