Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has weighed in on the club’s latest wonderkid signing, Willian Estevao, and has shared what he’s been hearing about the Brazilian starlet’s potential.

Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel revealed that while he hasn’t watched Estevao in action yet, those who have are convinced Chelsea have landed a gem.

“The kid (Estevao), everybody’s asking about the kid, how good he is,” Mikel said.

“I haven’t watched him, but coming to the Premier League is tough. When you go to a big club it’s tough. It will take time, let’s not expect him to set the world on fire.”

Estevao, who is currently with Palmeiras, is set to arrive at Stamford Bridge in 2025. Despite being just 17 years old, the winger has already turned heads in Brazil with his dribbling flair, composure, and maturity beyond his years.

Mikel continued: “He needs to settle and all that, but from what I’ve heard he’s a fantastic, fantastic player. We have to do some great signings, and I think we need a couple of experienced players.”

The Nigerian icon’s comments echo the sentiments of many Chelsea fans—excitement mixed with realism. While Estevao may not light up the Premier League immediately, the long-term plan under Enzo Maresca and Chelsea’s recruitment team appears clear: invest in elite youth while blending in key experience.

Chelsea have already confirmed several youthful arrivals, including Kendry Paez and Geovany Quenda, with Liam Delap also reportedly on the radar. But as Mikel pointed out, “We need a couple of experienced players” to complement the club’s youthful rebuild.

With Champions League football back at the Bridge and a new era underway under Maresca, all eyes will be on Chelsea’s transfer moves this summer—and in Willian Estevao, they just might have secured a future star.
