Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has named Chelsea legend N’Golo Kante as the toughest opponent he has faced during his illustrious Premier League career.
As De Bruyne prepares to bid farewell to the Etihad Stadium this summer after a decade of success, the Belgian midfield maestro reflected on the players who gave him the hardest battles on the pitch.
Speaking to Sky Sports earlier in 2025, De Bruyne said:
“In the Premier League, I’d say (N’Golo) Kante, Fabinho was really strong at his time with (Jordan) Henderson and (James) Milner because they covered so much space, (they were) so aggressive. But I’d say these two (Kante and Fabinho) stood out, probably most difficult in the way that they played.”
De Bruyne went on to single out Kante for special praise:
“Kante is small but covered so much space and he’s a bit tricky… Kante’s speed, agility, a very different player.”
Kante, a two-time Premier League champion with Leicester and Chelsea, left a lasting impression on fans and fellow professionals alike for his relentless energy and unmatched defensive instincts. His recognition by one of the Premier League’s all-time greats further cements his legendary status at Stamford Bridge.
