Cristiano Ronaldo has been backed to make a sensational move to Chelsea this summer, with former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke claiming the Portuguese superstar is still a level above the current options at Stamford Bridge.
The 40-year-old legend is nearing the end of his contract with Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, and with FIFA permitting short-term signings for the upcoming Club World Cup in the United States, speculation has grown over a possible return to elite European football.
Speaking to GamblingIndustryNews.com, Yorke said Chelsea should seriously consider bringing Ronaldo in, even if just for the global tournament.
“Yeah, why would you not? He can still do it. With his ambition and ability, if Chelsea are playing the way that they can and creating for him, he’s still an incredible forward. I see no reason not to.”
Yorke believes Ronaldo’s pedigree would give the Blues a major edge.
“He’s better than what Chelsea have currently got up front there. I can tell you that they’re not the greatest team in that number nine position,” he said.
“So I could see why he’s linked to that move. I don’t see any reason why you wouldn’t take a punt on it – it’s just a no-brainer.”
