Chelsea legend Claude Makelele believes the Blues are just two years away from becoming serious Premier League title contenders once again.

Despite a transitional season under head coach Enzo Maresca, Chelsea showed promising signs of progress—finishing 4th in the Premier League and securing Champions League football. They also capped off the campaign with silverware, winning the UEFA Conference League in dominant fashion with a 4-1 victory over Real Betis.

Since the Todd Boehly-led consortium took over in 2022, the club has spent over £1 billion on transfers as part of an ambitious rebuild. While that investment has yet to translate into a title challenge, Makelele sees a bright future on the horizon.

Speaking to Metro Sports, the former midfield general and two-time Premier League winner said:

“I think in two years Chelsea will compete for the Premier League.”

Makelele’s prediction will give Chelsea fans hope that the current project is on the right track—and that a return to domestic dominance may not be far away.
