Chelsea’s summer window is showing no signs of slowing down, with fresh developments surrounding two of the club’s young forwards — Marc Guiu and Liam Delap — capturing attention.
According to The Guardian, newly relegated Ipswich Town have registered interest in taking 18-year-old Marc Guiu on loan for the 2025/26 season. This comes at the same time as Chelsea finalise a £30m move for Ipswich striker Liam Delap, who has opted to join the Blues despite strong interest from other Premier League clubs.
While the timing of Ipswich’s approach for Guiu might raise eyebrows, sources have clarified that the two moves are not formally linked. Chelsea are expected to activate Delap’s release clause outright — a testament to how highly the club rates the former Manchester City academy star. Delap is set to become one of Maresca’s first marquee signings this summer as the Blues prepare for next season’s Champions League campaign.
Guiu, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona just last summer, was a revelation in the UEFA Conference League this past season. He scored an impressive six goals in seven appearances, playing a pivotal role in Chelsea’s run to their first European trophy under Enzo Maresca and the Todd Boehly–Clearlake Capital ownership. His explosive performances on the continental stage have understandably raised expectations — both internally at Chelsea and across Europe.
But while Chelsea are open to loaning Guiu for first-team experience, the striker himself may not be keen on a drop to the Championship. Sources close to the player suggest he remains unconvinced about a move to a second-tier side, even one as ambitious as Ipswich, who will be desperate to bounce back to the top flight after their relegation.
Guiu’s next move will likely be dictated by Maresca’s pre-season assessments. Chelsea want to strike the right balance between keeping their best young talents close and ensuring they get the game time required to develop. A loan could still happen — but only if the project is right for Guiu’s progression.
As for Ipswich, their interest in Guiu signals their intent to rebuild quickly and ambitiously. Landing a forward of his calibre, even temporarily, would be a significant statement of intent. Whether they can convince him of their vision, however, remains to be seen.
With Liam Delap Stamford Bridge-bound, attention now turns to Marc Guiu’s next chapter — and whether Chelsea will keep hold of one of their brightest young stars, or let him take the next step elsewhere.
