Chelsea have opened discussions with Jadon Sancho’s representatives over a permanent move to Stamford Bridge, following the winger’s successful loan spell from Manchester United.
Sancho, 25, joined the Blues on loan last August and played a key role in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League triumph, scoring a vital goal in the 4-1 final win over Real Betis on Wednesday night. The goal was his fifth of the season, to go along with 10 assists across all competitions.
Chelsea currently hold a £25million obligation to buy Sancho, but they retain the option to back out of the deal by paying Manchester United a £5million penalty fee. While the club is keen to keep the England international, the final decision hinges on agreeing contract terms that align with Chelsea’s strict wage structure.
Sancho is currently on a lucrative contract at United worth up to £300,000 per week, with one year remaining and the option of a further year. Chelsea, however, are unlikely to match that salary, as their transfer policy prioritises long-term, performance-based deals with lower base wages.
While Chelsea want Sancho to stay and talks are ongoing, there is still a possibility he could return to Manchester United if a financial compromise is not reached.
