Chelsea will need to be at their very best tonight in Wroclaw if they are to lift the Europa Conference League trophy, as Real Betis captain Isco has issued a strong message of belief and determination ahead of the final clash.
The former Real Madrid midfielder, enjoying a career resurgence at Betis, heads into tonight’s final on a personal high after being recalled to the Spain national team.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Isco revealed his pride at the unexpected news.
“Some teammates told me while we were training, I don’t know how they found out. I’m very happy to be back after so many years. It’s a nice goal,” Isco said with a smile.
“I’m proud to be here; it means things have been done well, and I hope I can settle in. I think it’s a little more enjoyable this time. The first time I arrived very early, without any experience in football. Now, after so many years, after the tough times I’ve been through, it feels different, with more intensity. I’m proud to be on the list.”
He also acknowledged the fans for their unwavering support throughout his journey. “It’s very nice how they broke the news to me; the fans are happy, and it’s partly thanks to all of them that I have the opportunity to return. It’s thanks to them.”
But while the national team call-up was a major personal highlight, Isco quickly turned his attention to what lies ahead: the challenge of Chelsea in a European final.
“We’re convinced we can win. I said in the locker room that belief is the first step to victory. We’ve shown we can beat anyone. We’re eager for the game to start and want to give the fans something to cheer about,” he confidently stated.
The Spanish international knows just how significant tonight’s match is—not just for the club, but for his own legacy.
“When you’re close to playing in a final, you visualise moments. The important thing is to focus on the game, and it’s going to be very difficult. It would be Betis’ first European title, and it would be important to win it as captain.”
Asked about the difference between Betis and Chelsea, Isco didn’t shy away from the obvious contrast.
“Good question, above all money. What Betis has most is excitement for this match, for this final, for writing their history in Europe,” he concluded.
Chelsea fans will be hoping that passion alone won’t be enough to stop Enzo Maresca’s men, who are looking to cap off their season with silverware and prove the club’s resurgence under the new manager is real. But with Isco leading a spirited Betis side, the Blues will know this is no routine final.
