As Chelsea prepare to face a wounded Manchester United side on Friday night, Enzo Maresca has made it clear that the Blues are keeping their focus firmly on themselves — not their opponent’s struggles.
With United enduring what has statistically been their worst-ever Premier League campaign, there’s a growing feeling among fans and pundits that this might be the perfect time for Chelsea to take advantage.

However, Maresca isn’t buying into that narrative.
“In my personal opinion, it’s not about if it’s a good time to face them or not. It’s just about us,” Maresca firmly stated when asked if the timing of the fixture was favourable for Chelsea.

The Chelsea boss instead turned the spotlight on his team’s own recent form, pointing to the momentum they’ve been building in recent weeks.
“I think even if we had a defeat the last game against Newcastle, I think the team is in a good moment, is in a good run,” he explained.
Despite the setback against Newcastle, Maresca remains confident. His optimism is rooted in Chelsea’s impressive return over their last 10 Premier League outings.
“The last 10 Premier League games, I think we had 20 points,” he said. “The average is two points per game, that is a good average to reach the Champions League spot.”

With Champions League qualification still within reach, the stakes couldn’t be higher for the Blues — and Maresca knows exactly what’s required.
“So we have to be focused on us and try to do our best to win Friday night,” he concluded.

While Manchester United may be stumbling, Maresca isn’t interested in distractions. For him, the message is clear: control what you can, focus on your game, and win. Chelsea fans will hope his clarity of vision is matched by a commanding performance under the lights at Stamford Bridge.

Getting 20 points out of 10 league matches is not good enough and must not be entertained. This cannot win a league title.
