Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has hinted at potential squad rotation as the Blues prepare to face Newcastle United in a high-stakes Premier League encounter less than 72 hours after their European clash with Djurgarden.

Coming off a semi-final win against the Swedish side, Chelsea now shift focus to domestic matters—but with such a quick turnaround, Maresca admits he has tough decisions to make regarding his starting XI.

“We will see,” Maresca said when asked directly if he will rotate. “The first result against Djurgarden gave us the chance to rotate and protect players for the second leg. But we still have today and Saturday to prepare the game, then we will see.”

Chelsea played on Thursday night and will be back in action at midday on Sunday—a tight window that offers minimal recovery time. Maresca was candid about the challenge.

“It’s a 12pm kick-off and we played on Thursday night, so it’s not the ideal situation,” he admitted, “but we need to play and we need to adapt immediately, prepare for the game in the best way, and hopefully continue our good moment.”

The Italian tactician has guided Chelsea into a promising run of form in recent weeks, and keeping that momentum going is clearly front of mind.

“We have two days and the players need to be focused on the Newcastle game because it’s the next one,” Maresca continued. “For us, we have to think like it’s the last game of the season, give everything, and then we see at the end [of the game].”

While he stopped short of confirming a heavily rotated side, Maresca’s comments suggest he’s weighing the benefits of rest against the demands of one of the season’s most critical fixtures. With squad depth and form both playing key roles, Sunday’s line-up may offer insight into how the Chelsea boss plans to juggle domestic and European ambitions down the stretch.
