Chelsea took a commanding stride towards a potential final after dismantling Swedish side Djurgarden 4-1 in the first leg of their semi-final clash away in Sweden. A clinical performance saw Nicolas Jackson bag a brace, complemented by goals from Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke, putting the Blues firmly in control of the tie.

The significant away victory gives Chelsea a substantial advantage heading into the second leg at Stamford Bridge. Jackson continued his fine form, leading the line impressively, while Sancho and Madueke provided crucial contributions from the wings, underlining the team’s attacking depth.

Despite the comfortable scoreline, Head Coach Enzo Maresca issued a message of caution, urging his players not to let their standards slip as they look to secure their place in the final.

Speaking to TNT Sport post-match, Maresca reflected on the performance, highlighting both the positives and areas needing continued focus.

“The first 70 minutes was good but then in the last 20 minutes we dropped a little bit,” the Italian coach explained. “But we cannot drop, we cannot relax because otherwise it is complicated.”

While acknowledging the strong position the team has established, Maresca was clear about the task remaining.

“We have done a good job,” he conceded, “but now we need to finish the job at home.”

His comments serve as a reminder that complacency cannot creep in. While the Blues were dominant for large periods, Maresca’s focus on the final 20 minutes shows his demand for high intensity and concentration throughout the entire 90 minutes, regardless of the score.

Chelsea will now prepare to welcome Djurgarden to West London for the return leg. Backed by the Stamford Bridge faithful and holding a three-goal lead, the Blues are overwhelming favourites to progress. However, Maresca’s words will be ringing in the players’ ears – the job isn’t done until the final whistle blows on the second leg. The focus remains firmly on sealing the deal professionally and booking that coveted spot in the final.
