As the 2024/25 Premier League season reaches its climax, Chelsea fans are daring to dream of a top-four finish once again. After months of inconsistency and injury setbacks, the Blues have rediscovered form at just the right time—and former Chelsea winger turned football pundit Pat Nevin believes they may be peaking when it matters most.
Speaking to the media, Nevin shared an optimistic assessment of Chelsea’s chances, emphasising the importance of Nicolas Jackson’s return to fitness.
“Chelsea may well just have timed it right after it looked like another season without Champions League football was going to fall through their grasp,” explained Pat.
Indeed, for long stretches of the campaign, it appeared Chelsea’s youthful squad, led by manager Enzo Maresca, would once again miss out on Europe’s elite competition. But a late-season resurgence, combined with a favourable fixture run-in, has opened the door.
Central to this late push is Nicolas Jackson. The Senegalese forward’s season has been marred by injuries, but his comeback couldn’t have come at a better time. His winning goal against Everton reignited belief within the squad and fanbase.
“The return of Nicolas Jackson to fitness in the nick of time might just see them over the line after his winner against Everton,” Nevin added.
With just four Premier League games left, every point is crucial. Chelsea sit within touching distance of the top four, and their fate is now very much in their own hands. To sweeten the end of the season further, the Blues are also through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League—a competition they now have a real shot at winning.
Pat Nevin’s verdict offers hope: Chelsea’s season isn’t done yet.
