Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has heaped praise on Trevoh Chalobah, confirming what many Chelsea fans have long believed – that the academy graduate remains a valuable asset to the team.

Chalobah, who returned to regular action in January after an injury-hit first half of the season, has been quietly influential at the back for the Blues. Whether it’s stepping in for the injured Wesley Fofana or slotting into a tactical setup that demands composure on the ball, Chalobah has delivered with consistency.

“I think Trev, since he’s back with us in January, he’s doing very well,” Maresca said, acknowledging Chalobah’s strong performances since rejoining the squad. “He’s playing games, he’s helping us, he’s defending when he needs to defend.”

That last line sums up Chalobah’s game perfectly. He’s not flashy, not always in the headlines, but when the team needs a solid tackle, a smart interception, or just calm leadership from the back, he steps up.

Maresca also touched on Chalobah’s ball-playing ability, a crucial trait in his system. “He is also building from the back when we need him, so he is able to do that, and we are very happy with Trev.”

Indeed, in a Chelsea side that’s often asked to play out from deep, having a composed centre-back like Chalobah is essential. His ability to switch play or pick a smart pass through midfield has been a key feature of Chelsea’s buildup play in recent matches.

“I knew that he could help us,” Maresca continued. “Unfortunately Wes Fofana is the one that is out, but for sure we had no doubt that Trev would help us.”

That final line is telling – Chalobah is no longer just a squad player filling in. He’s become a trusted part of Maresca’s defensive unit, stepping into the gap left by Fofana with maturity and assurance.

With his blend of tactical intelligence, versatility, and composure, Trevoh Chalobah is showing exactly why Chelsea were right to keep faith in him. And with Maresca’s backing, his importance to this team looks set to grow even further.
