Chelsea could be set for another summer of goalkeeping reshuffle, with reports from German outlet Kicker claiming that Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are targeting Blues goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

The 25-year-old Serbian shot-stopper, currently on loan at Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg, has impressed in Ligue 1 this season, keeping 10 clean sheets and conceding just 30 goals in 27 appearances. His consistency and commanding presence between the sticks have not gone unnoticed, and it appears Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen are ready to make a move.

Leverkusen are reportedly prepared to splash the cash to bring Petrovic to the BayArena, although no specific figures have been mentioned. With Champions League football secured for next season and ambitions to build on their domestic dominance, securing a top-quality goalkeeper is a priority – and Petrovic fits the bill.

Chelsea’s stance on Petrovic remains unclear. Having signed him from New England Revolution in 2023, the Blues allowed him to leave on loan last summer in favour of giving Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen long-term backing. However, Petrovic’s performances in France have reignited interest in his potential, both from across Europe and perhaps even within Stamford Bridge.

The question now is whether Chelsea will view Petrovic as a sellable asset or a returning star. With FFP considerations always lurking, a big-money offer from Leverkusen could tempt the Blues to cash in – especially if Enzo Maresca is comfortable with Sanchez and Jorgensen as his primary options.

For fans, it’s a mixed bag. On one hand, Petrovic has shown glimpses of being Chelsea’s long-term No.1. On the other, the business model under the current ownership has often prioritised smart flips over sentiment.

If Chelsea decide to sell, they could negotiate a significant fee and perhaps a sell-on clause, ensuring value even beyond the initial transfer. But if they choose to keep him, competition for the starting spot at Stamford Bridge could heat up next season.

One thing is clear: Djordje Petrovic’s stock is rising – and Chelsea must make a smart decision, both on and off the pitch.
