It appears the long-running transfer saga involving Victor Osimhen is reaching its climax — and reports claim Manchester United are emerging as the victors.
According to Turkish journalist Aygun Ozipek, Manchester United are closing in on a sensational deal for the Nigerian striker, who has been in blistering form on loan at Galatasaray this season.
Osimhen has set the Turkish Süper Lig alight, scoring 29 goals and providing six assists in just 34 appearances — a form that has reasserted his status as one of the most lethal forwards in world football.
United and Chelsea are in desperate need of a proven goal-scorer, and the report by Aygun claims United may have beaten Chelsea to the punch in securing Osimhen’s signature. Ozipek claims the Red Devils will pay Napoli a fee in the region of £51 million for the 26-year-old striker, who is expected to sign a five-year contract worth approximately £13 million per season — just under £250,000 a week.
The Nigerian international has been a consistent goal machine, bagging 77 goals in his last 105 appearances across spells with Napoli and Galatasaray. His combination of physicality, sharp movement, hold-up play and clinical finishing is exactly what Chelsea need.
Chelsea were long believed to be admirers of Osimhen and looked like serious contenders at one point. However, their hesitance to meet his wage demands or Napoli’s valuation may have cost the club dearly.
Will Osimhen finally snub Chelsea for United? Have Chelsea missed out on a golden opportunity?
An opportunity missed! Oh Chelsea of yesteryear, where are you?
