Despite a slight dip in form, Chelsea fans have been given a timely reminder of Cole Palmer’s class and potential — this time from former club stalwart Gary Cahill.
The ex-Blues centre-back, known for his leadership during Chelsea’s most successful modern era, has spoken out in defence of Palmer, urging supporters to stay calm and keep the faith in the young playmaker.
“Am I worried about his dip in form? No, not at all,” Cahill said confidently when asked about Palmer’s recent performances.
“I’ve watched him recently, and I’d be worried if he wasn’t still trying to take up positive positions, still trying to get on the ball, still trying to play forward. He’s trying to do all these things.”
At just 22, Palmer has carried the creative burden of this Chelsea side with remarkable maturity since arriving from Manchester City. But like any young talent, the season has come with highs and lows.
“What people need to realise is the age that he’s at, you’re going to get dips in form. Everyone goes through periods, and he’ll go through another one, where you have a dip in form. You come back. Cream rises to the top, and he’s a hell of a player. So no, I’m not worried at all,” Cahill added.
Palmer’s stats speak for themselves — 14 goals and 8 assists in 35 matches this season. For a player in his second full Premier League campaign as a regular starter, that’s elite-level production. What’s even more impressive is that many of those contributions have come in clutch moments, showing he’s not afraid of the spotlight.
Cahill’s words echo what many Chelsea fans already believe — that Palmer is special. Dips in form are natural, especially for a young player shouldering such responsibility in a team still finding consistency. The key now is patience and perspective.
As Cahill said, “cream rises to the top” — and if this season has shown us anything, it’s that Cole Palmer is destined to be one of Chelsea’s brightest stars for years to come.
