Jamie Carragher: Chelsea won’t finish in a Champions League spot

Chelsea’s hopes of securing Champions League football next season took another hit last weekend — and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher isn’t holding back.

Following disappointing draws against Brentford and Ipswich Town, the Liverpool legend voiced his concern over Chelsea’s top-four ambitions. “It’s a massive blow, that,” Carragher said when asked how the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Ipswich affects their Champions League chances. “It’s not just the two points they miss out on, it’s one of those fixtures that you look at on paper and think ‘that’s a guaranteed three points,’ because Chelsea have got really tough fixtures between now and the end of the season.”

The message was clear — dropped points in winnable games could prove catastrophic. And Carragher believes Chelsea’s failure to seize those opportunities will cost them dearly. “I don’t see them making the Champions League. I don’t see it,” he added bluntly.

Carragher went on to compare Chelsea’s current mood and atmosphere with other Premier League clubs. “I keep talking about connection but you see it with Newcastle and the supporters and players. You’ll see it with Forest as well, they’ll still have that, they’ll still be fighting to get their team over the line.”

His harshest criticism was reserved for the feeling around Stamford Bridge, or rather, the lack of it. “I don’t think we see that with Chelsea right now, I don’t think there’s any real connection between the manager and the supporters there… I fear for Chelsea in terms of making Champions League football.”

Carragher’s comments come after Chelsea slipped out of the top five, with Newcastle and Manchester City moving ahead following the latest round of Premier League action. The Blues’ inability to convert games like Ipswich and Brentford into victories is now under intense scrutiny, not just from fans, but also from pundits like Carragher who sense a bigger issue at play — one of belief, unity, and direction.

With a tough run-in ahead and Champions League places hanging in the balance, Carragher’s words should serve as a wake-up call. This is not just about dropped points — it’s about identity, purpose, and whether Chelsea can rediscover both before it’s too late.
