Chelsea’s hopes of securing a Champions League spot took another hit after a frustrating 2-2 draw against Ipswich Town at Stamford Bridge, and summer signing Jadon Sancho didn’t hold back in expressing his frustration.

Sancho, who scored Chelsea’s equaliser in the second half, was clearly more concerned about the dropped points than his own contribution. “It was a good goal, but I’m a bit disappointed dropping points competing for that Champions League spot,” he told reporters post-match.

The England international’s honesty summed up the mood around the Bridge. Chelsea dominated possession and created numerous chances, but failed to convert their superiority into three points — a recurring theme in recent weeks.

“My goal got us the point but I’d have preferred the three points and if that meant I didn’t score, I’d have been more than happy,” Sancho added, emphasising the collective over individual glory.

Ipswich stunned Chelsea with two quickfire goals early in the game — both seemingly out of nothing — and while the Blues managed to claw their way back into the contest, they couldn’t find a winner despite relentless pressure. “We knew going into the game Ipswich are very good on the counter. It’s unfortunate we let it slip, conceding two early goals from out of nothing.

“We had most of the possession and chances to score 4. It’s one of those games. It’s unfortunate but we can’t be dropping points at home.”

It wasn’t for lack of trying. The Ipswich goalkeeper put in a heroic performance, frustrating Chelsea’s front line time and time again. Sancho concluded: “The keeper made some great saves for them. We created a lot of chances. As a team, we have to put them away.”

With only six games left in the season, Chelsea’s margin for error is now razor-thin. Every game going forward will be a cup final, and Sancho knows it. “It’s not over, we still have six games to go. Every game is going to be a final for us. We have tough games ahead but if we stick together, I’m sure we can get something out of it.”
