Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has admitted his side face a “very tough” test when they take on Brentford in the Premier League, as the business end of the season begins to take its toll.

Speaking ahead of the west London derby, Maresca acknowledged the challenge Brentford present—despite their recent loss to Newcastle. “For sure it will be very tough,” Maresca said. “You see last night they lost to Newcastle away, but it was a tough game. But I think from now on, every game they’re going to be tough.”

It’s not just Brentford that will test Chelsea’s resolve—the schedule itself is now becoming a battle. With just two days between matches, the Blues are being pushed to their physical limits, and Maresca knows it.

“It’s difficult,” the Italian noted. “We are probably the only team [in this position]. Tottenham, I don’t know if they play Sunday or I don’t know when they play. So for us it will be more difficult.”

With little time for tactical preparations or proper recovery, Chelsea’s medical and coaching staff will have to be at their best to manage player fatigue and keep the squad fresh. The head coach admitted it’s now all about managing energy.

He said: “It’s also a matter of how we manage the tightness. We need to recover energy and we need to go again on Sunday.”

Chelsea fans will hope that Maresca’s men can dig deep and find that extra gear. As the season edges closer to its finale, every point counts—and every game will be a test of both quality and resilience. A win over Brentford would not only boost Chelsea’s league position but also prove they can handle the pressure of a congested schedule.

Can the Blues rise to the challenge? Sunday will tell.
