In a fiercely contested London derby under the lights at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea edged out Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 – and defender Levi Colwill was quick to highlight the man who made all the difference: Nicolas Jackson.
The Senegalese striker returned to the starting lineup and immediately reminded everyone why he’s such a threat. Speaking after the match, Colwill didn’t hold back in his praise.
“We knew they have a high line and we have Nicolas Jackson,” he told Sky Sports. “He’s a huge threat, to feet and in behind, and we know if we play to his advantages, we’ll score goals, and today we did.”
Jackson’s intelligent runs, pace, and movement continually stretched Spurs’ defence, giving the Blues an attacking edge they’ve sorely missed in his absence. His performance didn’t just help unlock the Tottenham backline—it also gave his teammates a renewed sense of confidence and urgency.
But Colwill also made sure to credit the role played by the Stamford Bridge faithful.
“The fans were amazing out there. They got us through that, I can tell you that. Giving the Tottenham fans stick was what we needed. That gave us the extra 10 minutes, the runs at the end, and the boys were buzzing from it.”
It was a performance that wasn’t just about flair—it was about grit, determination, and tactical discipline. The result propelled Chelsea back into the Premier League top four, a position that seemed out of reach just a few weeks ago.
Colwill, ever grounded and focused, understands what’s at stake.
“We need to win games at the end of the day. We’re fighting for the Champions League. To win games, we have to change our style sometimes,” he noted.
The young defender also offered a mature reflection on his own development, emphasising the importance of consistency over hype.
“Everyone always says I have a load of potential, but I don’t think potential means anything. You’ve got to show it every game.”
Chelsea fans will be thrilled to hear such words from one of their brightest young talents. Between Jackson’s return to form and Colwill’s continued growth, the Blues look well-equipped to finish the season strong.
If this performance is anything to go by, Chelsea are beginning to find the right balance between promise and performance—and it couldn’t come at a better time.
