Chelsea loanee Andrey Santos is making a strong case for a place in the Blues’ first team next season with his impressive performances at Strasbourg. The 20-year-old midfielder has been a standout performer in Ligue 1, and his latest display only reinforces his growing reputation.

Strasbourg’s head coach, Liam Rosenior, has heaped praise on Santos, highlighting his intelligence and maturity on the pitch.

Speaking to The Athletic, Rosenior explained what sets the young Brazilian apart.

“Andrey is going to have a magnificent career. You forget how young some of them are. Andrey plays like he’s 32,” Rosenior said.

The coach even compared Santos to a Brazilian football legend, though with a twist.

“I call him Dunga (after Brazil’s 1994 World Cup-winning captain); he’s Brazilian but he doesn’t play like one.

“He’s so smart and his stats are through the roof, in terms of scoring goals, winning duels. He’s going to have an outstanding career.”

Santos showcased his leadership qualities on Saturday as he captained Strasbourg in their 4-2 victory over Lyon. He also found the back of the net, scoring his ninth goal of the Ligue 1 season with a well-taken header.

With his performances in France earning widespread recognition, Chelsea fans will be eager to see how Santos fits into Enzo Maresca’s plans next season. If he continues at this rate, Stamford Bridge could soon witness the rise of a new midfield star.
