Chelsea’s young midfielder Andrey Santos, currently on loan at Strasbourg, has revealed how veteran defender Thiago Silva has played a crucial role in shaping his mindset and approach to professionalism.
Speaking about his time at Chelsea, Santos recalled a memorable visit to Silva’s home, which left a lasting impression on him.
He said: “When I was at Chelsea, I went to Thiago Silva’s for lunch. I could see how much he had invested in his body, his physique, his diet. I understood that in order to last, you had to leave nothing to chance.”
The 20-year-old Brazilian was particularly struck by the meticulous care Silva takes to maintain his body, even at 39 years old.
He added: “He even showed me his hyperbaric box in his room to help with recovery.”
For Santos, this experience became a source of inspiration as he looks to establish himself at the highest level of football.
“All of this inspired me, and I kept it in the back of my mind. I don’t know if I’ll be able to play until I’m 40, like Thiago, but I’ll try.”
Santos, regarded as one of Chelsea’s most promising young midfielders, is gaining valuable experience at Strasbourg as he continues his development. With Silva’s example in mind, the youngster will be hoping to build a long and successful career at the top level.
