Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly issued a firm warning to potential suitors of Victor Osimhen, making it clear that the Nigerian striker will be sold to the highest bidder this summer.

Chelsea were in advanced talks to sign Osimhen last year, but despite long negotiations, a deal could not be reached before the transfer window slammed shut. Paris Saint-Germain were also heavily linked, but their interest ultimately fizzled out. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte, who took over at Napoli, made it clear that Osimhen was not in his plans, preferring to reunite with Romelu Lukaku instead.

Frozen out in Naples, Osimhen surprisingly moved on a 12-month loan to Galatasaray, where he has been in sensational form. The 25-year-old has netted 26 goals in 30 games across all competitions, reigniting interest from Europe’s top clubs.

Although Osimhen has a release clause of €75m (£62.7m) in his contract, Napoli could be forced to accept a lower fee this summer. His current deal runs until 2026, but a contract extension is “out of the question”, leaving the Serie A side in a weakened bargaining position.

Nevertheless, according to Sky Sport Switzerland, De Laurentiis is determined to “stoke a bidding war” to drive up the transfer fee.

Paris Saint-Germain will not reignite their interest after signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for around €70m in January, but Chelsea remain keen on securing Osimhen’s signature. Manchester United have also added the Nigeria international to their four-man striker shortlist, setting the stage for a potential Premier League battle.

Chelsea, who have long been admirers of Osimhen, could finally get their chance to land the prolific forward—if they are willing to outbid their rivals.
