Chelsea’s midfield plans for the 2025-26 season are taking shape, with Andrey Santos set to be integrated into the first-team squad, according to The Athletic.

The Brazilian midfielder, who has impressed on loan at Strasbourg, will compete with Romeo Lavia for a spot in Enzo Maresca’s setup. Meanwhile, newly signed Dário Essugo is expected to serve as a backup to Moises Caicedo in the defensive midfield role.

As a result, Mathis Amougou has been lined up to replace Santos at Strasbourg next season, ensuring a smooth transition in the Ligue 1 side’s midfield.

One major uncertainty, however, is the future of Lesley Ugochukwu. The Frenchman has had a solid season at Southampton, but with Chelsea’s midfield now looking packed, it remains to be seen if he will be part of Maresca’s squad or moved elsewhere.

While Enzo Fernández was not mentioned in the report, his status as a key player suggests he will continue to play a pivotal role in Chelsea’s midfield plans.
