Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has received an outpouring of support after being subjected to racist abuse on social media following the Blues’ recent defeat to Arsenal.

The club and the French Football Federation swiftly condemned the abuse, standing firmly behind the 24-year-old.

Now, France captain Kylian Mbappe has also spoken out, offering his unwavering backing for his compatriot.

Speaking during a press conference, Mbappe expressed his frustration over the persistence of such incidents in football and society.

“I found out about this 15 minutes ago. It’s pathetic – we’re going around in circles, nothing’s moving forward, nothing’s changing. It’s tough to think that in 2025, we’re back to square one,” said the PSG superstar.

Mbappe made it clear that Fofana is not alone in this battle, emphasising the unity within the football community.

“I support him, all the lads support him. We’re all with him. These aren’t just words – if he needs anything at all, we’re here for him,” he added.

Chelsea have always stood firmly against discrimination, and Mbappe’s words reinforce the importance of solidarity in the fight against racism. The club, its fans, and the wider footballing world will no doubt continue to rally behind Fofana in the face of such unacceptable abuse.
