Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Robert Sanchez remains the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, despite his absence from the starting lineup in February.
Sanchez, who was benched for all four Premier League games last month, has now returned, with Maresca explaining the reason behind his temporary exclusion.
“Robert needed a few days off to mentally recharge, and now he’s back. I hope we won’t have to change the goalkeeper in the Premier League for the rest of the season, as the initial idea was to stick with one, but sometimes you have to make adjustments and be flexible,” Maresca told journalist Ben Jacobs.
This statement suggests that Sanchez is expected to reclaim his spot between the posts for the remainder of the campaign, reinforcing Maresca’s preference for stability in the goalkeeping position.
