Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has backed Chelsea to secure a comfortable victory against Leicester City in their upcoming match, believing the Blues will take full advantage of the situation.
“After beating Southampton last time out, this feels like another ‘gimme’ for Chelsea, and just when they needed it too,” Sutton said.
The ex-Chelsea forward highlighted how a win could significantly boost Enzo Maresca’s side in the league standings.
“With the two teams immediately above them, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, playing each other on Saturday, Chelsea could end up as high as third if they win this and, let’s face it, they are very likely to take the three points.”
Maresca, who previously managed Leicester, is expected to show respect for his former club, but Sutton believes his focus will be on a convincing win.
“I am sure Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will say lots of nice things about his former club but he will be absolutely desperate to pump them here.”
Looking at the struggles of Leicester under Ruud van Nistelrooy, Sutton sympathised with the Dutchman and the club’s ongoing issues.
“I think they will win easily, too. I feel sorry for Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy because he has been dealt a terrible hand, and in the background there is frustration from the Foxes fans about the running of the club.”
Chelsea fans will hope Sutton’s prediction proves correct as they aim to build momentum in their push for a top-four finish.
