Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez, who has emerged as one of LaLiga’s most exciting young talents this season. According to reports from the Daily Mail, the Blues have stepped up their interest in the 19-year-old, who recently made headlines for his dazzling performance against Real Madrid.
Rodriguez, a product of the Real Betis academy, only made his senior debut in October but has quickly become a key player for Manuel Pellegrini’s side. His electric pace and skill on the left wing have made him a nightmare for opposition defenders, and his fearless display against Real Madrid last weekend further cemented his reputation.
The teenager was instrumental in Betis’ shock 2-1 victory over Los Blancos, winning a crucial penalty after drawing a foul from Antonio Rudiger. Former Madrid star Isco converted from the spot, handing Betis all three points and putting Rodriguez in the spotlight.
Despite only being in the first team for a few months, Rodriguez’s potential has already attracted interest from Europe’s biggest clubs. Chelsea are now monitoring his progress closely to avoid missing out, with Liverpool also among the suitors.
However, signing Rodriguez won’t be straightforward. The Spaniard has a €50 million release clause in his contract, which could make negotiations challenging for the Blues.
Chelsea have been particularly active in the Spanish market in recent times, having signed teenage striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona for a bargain €6m last summer. They were also close to landing Atletico Madrid’s highly-rated forward Samu Aghehowa before the deal fell through at the last moment. Additionally, the Blues pursued Deportivo La Coruna’s Yeremay Hernandez in January, but the Spanish club refused to sell.
Rodriguez still has areas to improve—he has only registered one goal and one assist so far this season—but his raw talent and fearless attacking play make him a player to watch. With Chelsea keen to add more young attacking talent to their squad, Rodriguez could be the latest LaLiga starlet to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
