Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has provided a positive injury update ahead of his side’s UEFA Conference League clash against FC Copenhagen, confirming that Benoît Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are ready to return to action after time on the sidelines.
“They are both ready. Trev was not something serious so he is OK. Benoît has been training in the past 10 days, probably even more. Wes is not in the squad but he is back,” Maresca revealed.
The Italian coach also shared that midfielder Romeo Lavia has taken a significant step forward in his recovery, joining team training this week.
“Romeo has started to train with us in the last two days. Slowly but surely we are getting players back and ready for the final bit of the season.”
Maresca admitted that injuries have played a major role in Chelsea’s struggles this season but expressed optimism as key players make their return.
“We said already a few times, unfortunately our bad moment started with the amount of injuries but some of them are already back and in the process to be back. It is a huge boost for me and for the players.”
With Chelsea still competing in both the Premier League and Conference League, having defensive reinforcements back at this stage of the season will be a welcome boost for Maresca and his squad.
